Kamptal - Schloss Gobelsburg

Wine has been made at Schloss Gobelsburg for many generations; the connections can be traced back to 1171 when Cistercian monks started vineyards in the area. However, they only acquired the schloss itself in 1740 and for the strangest of reasons – the then owner had spent so much on improvements to the castle and grounds that he gave both the estate and himself to the order to escape his ruinous debts! Posterity was the winner as this extraordinarily lovely property, surrounded by such superb and differing vineyards, has remained intact ever since. From 1996 the vineyards and the making have been in the hands of the innovative Michael Moosbrugger, who holds the estate on a long lease from the Cistercian order.

Kamptal - Birgit Eichinger

Birgit Eichinger and her husband Christian started in 1992 on some three and a half hectares of her parents’ land. Since then the company has acquired more vineyards on the best hillsides, the Gaisberg, the Wechselberg and the Heiligenstein and now owns some eight hectares. As Christian is a builder, an ultra-modern winery and a very attractive residence have been constructed at their headquarters in the town of Strass.
