Jean-Claude Lapalu Wines

Jean-Claude Lapalu Wines
Beaujolais-Villages Nouveau 2006 - €13.95

This wine has all the delights of a faultless Beaujolais Nouveau. Ruby-purple in colour, it has a very young grapey and quite zesty nose. On the mouth it is exuberant, absolutely packed with fruit and with an unusually long finish for this style of wine.

Beaujolais-Villages “La Tentation” 2005 - €16.50

This wine is made with no sulphur being used at any stage in its production. We think that this wine needs to be decanted in order to allow it to breathe and settle. This brings out the lovely freshness of the fruit on both the nose and the palate.

Beaujolais-Villages “Vielle Vignes” 2005 - €16.50

Very pure fruit characterises this wonderfully slurpy, joyous wine, but as it is the 2005, a superb vintage, this wine has a bit of backbone and structure. It is the epitome of ‘quaffability’!

Brouilly “Vielle Vignes” 2005 - €19.95

This is a benchmark wine and almost defines Jean-Claude’s ethos. “Beautifully poised, well-defined, elegant plums with a mineral edge and a supple but amazingly long pure finish. Delicious.”

Brouilly Vielle Vignes 2005
Brouilly “La Croix des Rameaux” 2005 - €23.95

This has intense blackberry and apple on the nose and on the mouth is very rich, very rounded; although made in old, old barrels, you’d almost swear that there was some new oak in there. Although it has that lovely Gamay easy drinking feel, it keeps pulling you up with the realization that this is wine of outstanding quality.

Brouilly “La Cuvée des Fous” 2005 - €t.b.a

This will be arriving shortly – the 2004 was such a hit in certain circles that there is none left! A tasting note will be appended to this article in due course.

Beaujolais-Villages “Le Rang du Merle” 2004 - €27.95

Translated, this is “The Blackbirds Row” – as noted above, this wine is made with all the tender loving care that would be afforded to a named Burgundy and achieves the same result. This is a stunning wine that will evolve into a masterpiece, given ten years. Don’t think anyone will be able to hold onto it, though...
