Burgundy Wines - Domaine Arlaud

Tasting Notes by Barbara Boyle

We tasted a selection of wines from 2004 and one from 2001 to show how a wine can evolve.

Domaine Arlaud
Morey St Denis Villages 2004, Domaine Arlaud

Cherry and strawberry fruit, tannins balanced, good acidity, it is light and gentle.
Gevrey Chambertin 2004, Domaine Arlaud

This is made from four different parcels. The nose is earthy and truffly, the palate has red fruits and is more tannic than the Morey St Denis.
Morey St Denis Aux Cheseaux 2004, Domaine Arlaud

‘Cheseaux’ means the old stone houses one sees in many of the vineyards. Light in colour, it has perfume and red fruits on nose, some vegetal elements, tight tannins, red berries and more spicy flavours. Aux Cheseaux neighbours Charmes Chambertin. It is a little peppery and has a Gevrey quality.

Morey St Denis Aux Millandes 2004, Domaine Arlaud

Ripe tannins, light red fruits, length long, elegant, this feels more structured and warmer.

Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru 2004, Domaine Arlaud

Ripe red fruit, touch of spice, the tannins are firm but the fruit can stand up to it. Long length of red fruit and spice flavours. In youth less fruit, velvety tannins, not at all mouthpuckering, powerful. 40% new oak. Smaller yield at 38hl/ha.

Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru 2001, Domaine Arlaud

Much riper, more colour, showing some development and secondary aromas, fennel and cherries. Tannic but ripe, cherry fruits, extraordinary length, elegance and power, ethereal, still very fresh and young, give it even more time! A classic year.
