Niepoort and the Wicklow Wine Co are pleased to announce the release of Sásta 2006

The label is in the form of a cartoon and it tells a story that will be instantly recognisable to most, if not all, Irish people. The drawings for Sásta were done by Fintan Taite, an award-winning Irish cartoonist and illustrator who lives and works in Dublin. The same wine is also sold in other countries under different names, each with an individual label created by a nationally known artist. (Fabelhaft in Germany, Gestolen Fiets in the Netherlands, Drink Me in the UK, Twisted in the USA...)

The brief from Niepoort was straightforward – choose a subject that was truly Irish and make sure that the result had humour! The end result is a cartoon about St Patrick and the legend of his banishment of the snakes. So, in keeping with the ‘Irishness’ of the label, green is the colour and Sásta is the name. (As béarla, the name means ‘satisfied, pleased or contented’.)

Sásta has all the characteristics of a classic Niepoort wine. While the label is meant to be fun, this is a serious wine, which should provide immediate pleasant drinking, intense and full of Douro character; it is fresh, fruity and spicy with smooth tannins.

Sásta is produced from vines in the Cima Corgo, mainly Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Amerela, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Cao. The 2006 is the first edition of this Douro wine for the Irish market.
